MY RECENT THOUGHTS:

People always ask me where my motivation and drive comes from. My answer is quite simple, "it's from my inner belief" Someone once told me, 'If you think you can, you're right, but if you think you can't, you are right too'...
If you simply believe in yourself, its amazing how things just happen...I believe in living outside the box of life...it's the only thing that keeps my soul alive! Think BIG!! DREAM BIG! This is how I live everyday of my life...and so should you!

On that note, I am so glad to hear from you all, always, and I'm glad I can help make a difference (at least I know I am doing something right!)

Thanks for being so patient with all my replies and understanding my hectic schedule. Since the Arnold I have been booked non stop with my travels and appearances and I am working on a bunch of projects that I can't wait to share with you all in the near future. No...sorry I can't tell you the big ones now, I gotta leave you in some suspense, right? (Wink! Wink!) But I can tell you lots of upcoming teasers.

Arnold says, "I'll be back!" - The interview!

Much like waiting for Santa to come at Christmas time so did Arnold himself at the 19th annual Arnold Classic/Sports Festival weekend. Instead of leaving cookies and milk for the children, he gifted fitness enthusiasts across the world with his live interview backstage held by Bob Cicherillo and Nancy Di Nino provided by Bodybuilding.com. What a memorable experience!

We were so fortunate that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger took the time to speak with us backstage. In our webcast closing backstage, Arnold was more then willing to say a few words on behalf of 'his show'.

I felt so honored to have the opportunity to interview Arnold, the Governor. Was I nervous...people asked? No, not nervous, perhaps, if I can describe the moment, I felt so blessed and fortunate to be standing beside the person who was ultimately responsible for such remarkable movements in our sport, for his contributions and for his creation of The Arnold Classic itself. It was a moment of "awe"...a state of respectful bliss I would call it...one I will reflect upon even years from now.

My recent thoughts:
Whether it's an early 3am morning, or late at night when I am alone and separate from the judgments and demands the world bestows upon us; it's here in this beautiful silence that I am able to hear my heart speak. In any case, it follows my insatiable drive to be "extra-ordinary", and to follow dreams of greatness.
I was born to do this...or at least die trying!

I have just finished all my competitions for the year, and I guess I am supposed to be winding down into an off season...ya right, Is there ever a true off season for me? Now it's time to finish up with photoshoots and shift my commitments back in to my world of dance and continue with working demands of both dance and fitness which is what I truly enjoy the most! I recently attended the World Salsa Congress in Toronto and it was so wonderful to see all my dance crew again whom were very excited to see me back on the dance floor and asking when I am going to "throw it down" again. Hmmm...All I know is when I feel that music, salsa or hip-hop, damn, I am "shakin' ma hump" alright! It's the most free feeling in the world. 1) MAGAZINE WATCH

As you know I have been busy with many photoshoots with some wonderful photographers and you can start catchin' some of those pics in the current Nov/Dec issue of Planet Muscle Magazine. The one and only Jeff E. whom I consider a 'male diva' ... calls me "A Fiery Red Biceps Girl" in the Fitbodies section - on stand now.

You can also look for the current, and upcoming December issue of Iron Man Magazine with me demonstrating training exercises in the segment called "Good Vibrations". (Canadian residents can purchase these mags at all Chapters and selected Superstore Loblaws, Shoppers and Wal-Mart.)

I would like to say a special thank you to Amy Edwards who did such a wonderful job as my stylist on set of the Bill Dobbins shoot. Amy is located in Studio City, California and is a WELLA TOP STYLIST!! 3) POST OLYMPIA

I just love going to events like the O and the Arnold which everyone highly looks forward to attending each year. It's such a wonderful feeling to meet up with so many friends and share everyone's energies and inspiration. It's like one big magnetic attraction that bonds us all together. I want to say congrats to dear "Mo", Monica Brant for placing 3rd... even though you are always first place to me. Julie Palmer, be proud, this was the best I have ever seen you look! You wowed everyone. And Nina Luchka for being on the O stage for the first time. You did great! The best was after all was said and done, we all got to sit and enjoy some naughty foods! Just a quick update before I'm off again to the Olympia...and yes no doubt you will get a full report on everything once I get back!

Well I finally wrapped up my last competition of the season placing 11th at the IFBB North American Figure Championships in Ohio. It was the biggest show ever, with athletes coming from the US, Canada and Mexico. There was a total of approximately 140 Figure girls and I was in the largest class - Figure B with a total of almost 40 competitors! WOW!! We were busy alright! Once again, you can never determine, exactly what the judges are looking for from show to show, nonetheless, I showed up with the best package I could bring to the stage, with grace and poise and doing what, "Miss Nancy does best", which landed me the 11th spot.

It was great having Mike and Julie there to make sure everything was on point at all times. A highlight after the show... was the "staged fitness brawl" for J.M. between Mike's Factory girls and Oddo's angels. It was hilarious!

Special thanks to Gary Udit, (show promoter) who did a wonderful job with putting the show in place so it ran so smoothly for us. You are wonderful!

1) PRO QUALIFIER - IFBB GNC NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS, SEPT 15 & 16, 2006 - CLEVELAND OHIO

Here I go again! Just under 3 weeks out so I am busy training and preparing for this show. What am I feeling you ask? Well I can only worry about me and control what I do. Yes the judging has been all over the board this year from show to show...that's the nature of subjectivity in this sport of Figure. Some favour conditioning, some favour muscle, a more toned physique, a softer one... you just gotta move with the flow and adapt from there. I know the package I bring to the stage this time around will be a little different based on what the results have been from the last shows especially in the U.S. with the NPC. Regardless, I can only do my best and I look forward to sharing the stage with other National level competitors from the US and Mexico. I would love to see you there in person. Steve Wennerstrom is the Editor-in-Chief of Women's Physique World Publication. He is also the Editor at large for Musclemag magazine and a photographer. I have come to know Steve whom has become a dear friend and mentor. Let me tell you, being in the industry for over 28 years, between writing and photography his knowledge of this industry, is impeccable. If there was a "Hollywood Star" for the walk of Fame for Fitness and Bodybuilding... Steve's name would be one of the first! Steve and I had the opportunity to work together last year and you can now purchase those photos online on his www.wpw.net website. Also look forward to an upcoming segment in Musclemag that Steve has written... will keep you posted!

1) POST NATIONALS & JULY TRAVELS:

7th it is at the Canadian Figure Nationals.
So where do I begin? I just recently returned from Edmonton and now, already planning to leave for my much anticipated travels to Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Does it surprise you? Go! Go! Go! I am looking forward to heading once again, to my all time favourite place, Los Angeles (just love it there!), for a mix of fitness and some fun. I am shooting with some of my favourite photographers, and then heading to Vegas to re-unite with many of my industry friends at the USA's which is one of their NPC Pro Qualifiers. So for now I'll give you the "411 scoop" and be sure to look forward to all the juicy details in my August commentary.

OKAY, back to business. The Canadian Nationals. Well it definitely left me, as well as many other fellow competitors confused over the judges expectations and more importantly, the confusion over the portrayal of "what exactly a figure athlete" is destined to appear like. Regardless...7th it is and I am proud to say that I graced the Canadian Figure National stage. I did my best. I was in the best shape ever by far...and I presented the best package I could. Like I always say, as athletes we can only worry about being our own personal best. This is our own reward, our only salvation.

As you all know by now, aside from the external physical desires of this sport I am equally driven by the spiritual and mental convictions that challenge me and allow for my personal growth and empowerment.

Appropriately enough, while training and dieting for my upcoming competition season, I thought my commentary would reflect some of those inner challenges that as an athlete I face each day ... "Will versus temptation"... This is one of the mental struggles we as athletes, face each day.

"Lead us not into temptation".... as on the worst depletion day we would rather indulge in a cookie or two...ymmm! which immediately tickles the fruits of our weakness to fall victim to a cheat meal or day off training Yet we are guided by our inner will and faith to stick to the dieting and training in the journey that will land us on stage.

Yes...for all of you in the same boat....this dilemma, Does it hit the spot?
This is how I look at it. This is the defining moment where I create an abundance of will and faith that "empowers me and allows me to be the best I can be".
On that note, knowing you rise above temptation, you can always say I did my best, and not ever wonder "what if", and feed yourself with judgement and emotional poison.

Funny, I just got back from training with Mike in Columbus. And aside from the fact that I learn something new each time about training...I am more intrigued by the lessons I learn on a personal note. He always has a message to deliver that strengthens your inner self. God gifted him that way. (That is what I love about him!)

As I vent about the "what if's,.. expectations...and the unforeseeable outcome", he says... "Don't pay attention to the reward. Or what the judges decide, or what people think." JUST DO YOUR BEST! Knowing, that you are in the best shape of your life, and that you did everything you can to get there.....is the biggest reward for yourself. Just continue to do what you do."...

And this was enough for me to soothe my soul, put a smile my face, strengthen my inner will, faith and divine power within me...and to continue doing what I do best!

So I just returned from Columbus once again, from another grueling, yet inspiring weekend of training camp with good old Mike D.!...You know , its funny how Mike is such a remarkable person that no matter how near or far, he manages to cast a spell on you (as with all his athletes), that infects you with that unexplainable self-motivation and discipline that most spend so much time searching for. Mike makes you feel invincible!

So each morning when my alarm goes off for cardio call, anywhere from 3am to 4am (YOU HEARD ME!!) ...and I ask myself "Am I nuts?" ...and... "why am I doing this again?". Then I chuckle to myself, see Mike's face and hear his voice echoing yet one of his favourite sayings... "SHOW UP, KEEP UP, SHUT UP!"... and that is enough to drag my ass out of bed! You become an instant Warrior, and that is the best feeling in the world!

Between training and traveling, it seems my schedule never slows down but I finally had the chance to add many new and exciting things... including finally, yes the Arnold Classic pictures a lot of you have been asking for.

2) Nancy joins "Road to the Pros" Reality Television Show!



I am pleased to announce after auditioning at the Road to the Pros booth at the Olympia, I will be joining the RTP team working with the likes of J. Hammett, Toney Freeman, Starling Steele, Shawn Ray, Flex Wheeler and more!

RTP's is an American based reality show that will follow 12 elite bodybuilding & fitness athletes as they enter their final 8 weeks of preparation before the NPC Nationals: the final Qualifier for those in pursuit of their IFBB Pro Card.

RTP’s and their camera crew were in Columbus, Ohio last weekend filming a grueling training camp with Mike Davies as part of their series, and will be coming to Toronto to join Nancy in some co-hosting of future episodes.

Reflections

... knowing that I am leaving a city known for “opportunity and making your dreams come true.” As an athlete, dancer, actor, entertainer, anyone aspiring to achieve their dreams, this is the familiar feeling that takes your breath away.
So once again, as I glare out the window, it is this feeling, this“quiet time” where I am able to soul search on life and reflect on yet another memorable season. As with many other of my fellow competitors and other athletes that can relate, I exhale with a sigh of relief and give thanks to God for giving me the strength to endure another season on this journey.
I can’t tell you how many times I am asked ...”Why do you do it?” or “Is it worth the sacrifice?”…. At the time, I can only politely chuckle, while thinking, if only I could make this person understand what drives me to do what I do best.

It is really hard to explain. I just know that for me, competing and being on stage is such an addictive passion for me. God has given me such a gift, of artistic creativity, a talent that I love to share with the rest of the world. I feel very fortunate that I can influence and inspire other people. Yes, there are sacrifices, commitments, there are times when you feel you can’t go any further, believe me, I am only human, and have my share of those days, where I start questioning… “the, what if’s, the woulda’s, coulda’s and shoulda’s….. But it is these days that allow me to grow. It is these days that unbenounced an unexplainable power within me surfaces that allows me to keep going. I must admit I am a soldier that way; I will do what I have to do to survive the ups and downs.
So when people ask me “How does one keep motivated?”…. I answer, “It’s the divine power within you.” It’s all a question of how bad you want it, how bad you desire you goals and dreams.

As I tell people, you gotta taste it, feel it, smell it and drool over it before it’s going to happen. You gotta talk about it until you feel yourself living it, but most importantly, you gotta believe!

My Spiritual Declaration

Hi Everyone! First & foremost, sorry for the delay and thanks for your ongoing patience. After yet, another intense season I found it necessary to take some time for myself and allow for some Spiritual Declaration.
I am a firm believer that with Spiritual Reflection comes personal growth and inspiration and for those of you who know me you are well aware of my strong spiritual convictions that not only help impregnate my passions but help to inspire others (including yourselves as you read this!)...

B) Artistic Pic Additions - Photo shoot with John Stutz This past June I had the pleasure of working with photographer, and now friend John Stutz. From California, he came to Canada during the week of FAME and the Toronto PRO Invitational to shoot some of his favourite Fitness Models. First let me say aside from being an outstanding photographer John is one of the most humble people I know, we actually have blossomed a wonderful friendship.
Okay, back to his work. John's artistic vision is beautifully reflected in his photos, but let me warn you, if you are planning on shooting with John, you better rest up... as this will probably be the most physically challenging photo shoot you will experience. The stretching, bending, climbing, holding... it evaporates your energy alright, like an intense Pilates workout! But in the end it's all worth it of course.

Yes another one down with FAME wrapped up and I am proud to have placed 6th in the first ever FAME Figure PRO Show.

So I had to take it on the road and hit it up hard with those Americans at FAME Great Lakes in Detroit... "holla". I gave them a little "sumthin' sumthin'" to remember Miss Nancy by. Guess it was enough for my 1st place in the Figure Division, and off to the PRO's at the FAME World Series in June in the Pro Fitness Model Division and now the Pro Figure Division.
Congratulations to Nancy on her 1st place in the Figure Division at FAME Great Lakes in Detroit. This lands her, her PRO Card in the Figure Division!
